Defensive Juggernaut

The Oilers suffered a tough loss two nights ago to Bay City and responded by having one of their best practices of the year yesterday and then traveled up the highway to take on Gladwin on the coldest night of the winter so far in one of the coldest barns on the schedule.

From the moment the puck dropped fans could sense this was going to be a tough fought battle, with some huge hits, back and forth action and a fast pace to the game.

Mt. Pleasant opened the scored halfway through the 1st on a fifty play setup up by Jesse McDevitt-Irwin and Robert Backus allowing Evan Huber to bury the puck in the back of the net.

In the second period Huber returned the favor to line mate Backus allowing the Oilers to take a 2-0 lead. DeLorenzo also got an assist on the play. A minute later McDevitt-Irwin threw a saucer pass to Nick Coscarelly who lit the lamp and gave the Oilers a 3-0 lead.

That was more offense than Sophomore goalie Adam Salisbury would need as he held on through a late flurry by the Storm to secure the 3-0 shutout and improve Mt. Pleasant's record to 3-6.

Next action for the Oilers will be on January 11th as they travel to Big Rapids.
