Long Layoff

After nearly 10 days without playing a game, the Oilers will get back to action this Wednesday evening against the Midland Dow Chargers. The game will test the young Oilers and will be played in Midland at 7 PM at the Midland Civic Arena.

The last game the Oilers played was on the 3rd of December when they hosted the Okemos Chiefs at the Mount Pleasant Ice Arena. The Oilers were outpaced by the Chiefs 4-2.

The first period had the two teams feeling each other out and ended in a 0-0 tie.

The second period proved to be too much for the Oilers. After giving up a power play goal to Okemos, the Oilers turned the puck over in their transition breakout and found themselves down 2-0. A nifty setup from Senior Josh Watters allowed Senior Ryan Heeke to bury the puck in the net and cut the deficit in half. However, the momentum quickly changed with another turnover by the Oilers resulting in a Chiefs goal. Okemos scored another goal late in the second period to take a 4-1 lead in to the second intermission.

Mt. Pleasant showed plenty of fight and grit in the third period out shooting the Chiefs 13-4, however they could only manage one goal from Senior Cody Yazzie with assists going to Junior defenseman Eric DeLorenzo and Freshman winger Robert Backus.

Junior goalie Derek D'Artangnan made 23 saves in the loss. The Oilers record fell to 2-2.

After the Oilers Wednesday night game at Dow, they will travel to Gladwin on Saturday the 18th to face the Flying G's at 5 PM.
